03079 at Sandown.2 viewsClass 03, 03079 stands in the evening sunlight at Sandown Station on the 16th July 1994. This rear 3/4 view clearly shows the cut down cab roof, neccessary for the loco to pass through the tunnel at Ryde Esplanade. The shunter is stood on the outer face of Sandowns island platform, once used for passenger trains bound for Newport via Merstone, a service that ceased in February 1956. Up to 1966 this platform face was also used on Summer Saturdays for early morning trains starting from Sandown.55555

Whitwell Station.1 viewsThe superbly restored Whitwell Station, on the former branch from Merstone to Ventnor West, seen on the 15th July 2011. The last train on the branch ran on September 15th 1952, hauled by Class 02, Number 27-'Merstone'. The line was opened throughout to Ventnor in 1900, and has been closed for longer than when it was active! Even today, beyond the former station, there is open countryside. The main buildings here are now holiday cottages. This view is looking north towards Merstone. 55555
