76025 at Penistone with the 'Easter Tommy'.4 views1500v DC Class 76, 76025 with the LCGB North West 'Easter Tommy' Railtour, makes a photostop at Penistone on April 21st 1981. The tour had started from Liverpool Lime Street and was bound for Lincoln. 76025 hauled the tour from Guide Bridge, via Woodhead to Rotherwood Sidings, where a pair of Class 31s took over. This & the return journey with the same loco, was the last time a Class 76 would haul a passenger train. Closed in July 1981, this side of Penistone Station is now abandoned and covered in trees.

Class 304, 045 at Altrincham.2 viewsHaving arrived from Alderley Edge, Class 304 set number 045 waits at Altrincham with the return working on December 23rd 1991. This was twilight time for heavy rail services along the former MSJ&A line from Manchester. The last BR electric service ran the following day on Christmas Eve 1991, bringing down the curtain on 60 years of electric services to Altrincham. The line reopened as part of the Manchester Metrolink system in June 1992. The platforms in this view are now used exclusively by Metrolink.
Class 115 M51670 stabled at Aylesbury.2 viewsOn Sunday October 4th 1981, A class 115 4-Car DMU with Driving Motor Brake Second M51670 nearest the camera was stabled alongside what had been the former Great Central main line north of Aylesbury station. There were 42 of these high-density Derby built units, they were replaced by new Turbo units in 1992.

The former coal wagons had been transferred to Departmental use for carrying spent ballast. The train was working from Kirkham DCE Tip to Bamber Bridge DCE Sidings.
31405 at Sod Hall Crossing - Farington Moss.8 viewsOn the former mainline between Preston & Liverpool Exchange, via Ormskirk, Class 31, 31405 heads a train of Grampus Wagons at Sod Hall Crossing on Farington Moss. Scrap track materials were being recovered from the former Up Line.
47521 at Lincoln St Marks.5 viewsClass 47, 47521 has the road as it prepares to depart from Lincoln St Marks with a Cleethorpes to London Kings Cross service on April 21st 1981. Opened by the Midland Railway in 1846, the station closed in May 1985 and a shopping centre now covers the site.
Class 08, 08846 at Reddish Depot.5 views08846 is the filling on a Class 506 sandwich at Reddish Depot on June 18th 1978. Flanked either the side by vintage 1500vDC Class 506 EMUs, the 08 was the depot pilot. The loco was new from Horwich Works in May 1961 numbered D4014. Its first home was at Newton Abbot Depot (83A). It was eventually retired from BR service at Allerton Depot in October 1989. The loco now earns a living for Bombardier at Derby.

Class 50 50005 at Exeter St Davids.6 viewsIn original un-refurbished condition, Class 50 50005-'Collingwood' stands at Exeter St Davids on the 7th August 1979 whilst working a Paddington to Paignton Relief Train, formed of Mark 1 stock. The locomotive was a product of English Electric, built at Vulcan Foundry in Newton-Le-Willows in 1967 as D405. The loco was eventually withdrawn from service in January 1991.
Class 37, 37214 at Pontrilas.6 views37214 was on Sunday P.Way work at Pontrilas near Abergavenny on the 9th September 1984.
Class 25, 25221 at Wigan Springs Branch.6 viewsWithdrawn from Longsight Depot in January 1984, 25221 was lanquishing at the side of Wigan Springs Branch on the 5th July 1984. The loco was keeping company with one of Wigan Depots former Breakdown Train Staff Coaches, ADM395753 - formerly an LMS coach, it was also awaiting its fate. 25221 was eventually depatched to Swindon Works and scrapped in 1986.
