Class 108 DMU at Midge Hall.7 viewsOn possibly the last occasion that a first generation DMU worked along the Preston to Ormskirk line, a class 108 with car 54238 trailing has just collected the token from the signalman at Midge Hall, whilst working from Preston to Ormskirk on May 16th 1992.
Class 25, 25321 at Maudland on the Deepdale Coal.9 viewsClass 25, 25321 is about to cross over the span that bridged the drained section of Lancaster Canal at Maudland on May 3rd 1985. The loco is heading for Deepdale with loaded HEA coal hoppers on the former Longridge Branch. 25321 was the former D7671 and was the last locomotive built at Derby Works in 1967.

Swindon Cross Country Class 120 DMU at Leyland.7 viewsIn the early 1980s a batch of Swindon built Class 120 Cross Country DMU sets were allocated to Newton Heath Depot, primarily for use on Manchester to Blackpool North Services. M53680 brings up the rear of a Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North Service at Leyland on the 9th November 1986. This part of Leyland Station on the Down Slow Line, still had its low height platform, a legacy from the opening of the North Union Railway in 1838.

Although the station buildings were demolished in the early 1970s, the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway platform canopy was retained, now sadly replaced by a small shelter.
Class 108 DMU at Midge Hall.7 viewsSubstituting for the non-availablity of a class 142, a Class 108 2-Car DMU returned to its old stamping ground on the 16th May 1992. With car 54238 leading, the 08.21 Ormskirk to Preston Service has just returned the single-line token at Midge Hall Signalbox. The unit is about to pass through the derelict platforms of the former station, closed in 1961.
