The train had just called at Summerseat Station and was taking it easy to avoid slipping on the wet rail.

Cravens Class 105, M50784 at Blackburn.skoðað 3 sinnumWith the former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Station at Blackburn as a backdrop, Cravens 105, M50784 was in the West facing bay platform with a service to Manchester Victoria, via Bolton in September 1979. These distinctive power-twin units were associated with the ex LYR routes in Lancashire for nearly 30 years. Blackburn Station was the last of the large L&Y stations to remain intact with its overall roof and iron & glass canopies, all since replaced by modern structures in the name of progress.

The train was formed of 'Sturgeon' Wagon DB994440 & 'Tench' Wagon DB994903, collecting scrap track materials from the former up line between Farington Curve Jct and Midge Hall. The only surviving semaphore signal in the Preston area is to the right of the train, this protects the level crossing on Midge Hall Lane.

Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!10. des, 2015

This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history.
