For the launch of 483001 all the newly painted stations were decked in bunting and displayed 'The New Island Line Trains are Here' banners. This is the one at Sandown on July 15th. In the event it was a little premature as the newly arrived unit spent most of its time that Summer on the Ryde Pier shuttle and it was not until late September until the next unit, 483002 arrived from Eastleigh.

The Class 141s were the only units to have the narrow Leyland National bus bodies with 2+2 seating. With bodies built at the Leyland Factory at Workington and underframes and final assembly done at Derby, 141001 was finished in Barrow Corporation bus blue rather than rail blue when completed in 1984. The units were refurbished in the late 1980s, but have now been withdrawn.

Until July 1981 Hadfield was a through station on the Manchester to Sheffield 'Woodhead' route. Always the eastern limit for suburban services from Manchester, beyond the stop block at the far end of platform is the abandoned track bed of what was in 1950's, the most modern main line in the UK - How the mighty fall.
