Trans-Pennine DMC E51965 at Liverpool Lime Street.1 viewsA 5-Car Trans-Pennine DMU set had just arrived at Liverpool Lime Street with a service from Hull on May 22nd 1979. Complete with its oil tail-lamp, E51965 was a Driving Motor Composite. These stylish DMUs, built at Swindon Works in 1960 had a mixture of saloon and compartment seating. They were stalwarts on the Liverpool-Hull route for most of their lives, until the last few were withdrawn in 1984. Due to asbestos contamination none survived into preservation.
47226 at Midge Hall - Preston to Ormskirk Line.1 viewsMuch activity at Midge Hall at 8am on Sunday 5th May 1991. The engineers train, 8L64 had run from Preston Dock Street and was recovering scrap track materials from the former up line that was retained from Farington Curve Jct to Midge Hall until 1983. Even the dog from the Midge Hall pub has come along to help. The train consist was a pair of Chub wagons - DB787241 & DB787260, a Sealion Hopper - DB982828 & Sturgeon flat wagon DB994121. There was also some patch ballasting being done hence the Sealion.

Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
