87006 departs from Preston.3 viewsIn a scene repeated daily, but now passed into history, Class 87, 87006-'George Reynolds', departs from Platform 3 at Preston, and is about to pass under Fishergate Bridge with a London Euston to Glasgow Central Service in May 2001.

47218 at Bowkers Siding Bamber Bridge.9 viewsOn the day that the newly installed siding and railfreight facility was officially opened at Bowkers, at Bamber Bridge, 47218 in ex-works Railfreight Distribution livery was waiting to enter the site. The loco was stood on the short spur leading from the East Lancashire Line to the terminal in Bowkers premises. Later that morning 47218 was named 'United Transport Europe' by the local MP. 20th July 1990.

Class 504 M65439 in BR Green.5 viewsClass 504, Driving Motor Brake Second, M65439M at Bury Depot in August 1977. The Manchester-Bury Line had seen some service reductions in the late 1960s, and subsequently several class 504s were stored surplus to requirements at Bury. Several cars still carried BR green livery, others were in early versions of BR blue.

08880 & Class 37s at Sheffield Tinsley.3 viewsA typical scene from the closing years of Sheffield Tinsley Depot on Sunday 30th August 1992. 08880-'Mexborough' in rail blue, keeps company with two of the depots sizeable fleet of Class 37s, 37298 & 37031 both in Railfreight Distribution livery.

Ex BR EM2, E27001/NS 1505 at MOSI.1 viewsIn a difficult location for decent photography, Ex BR EM2 1500v DC Electric Loco 1505 was one of the exhibits in the Power Hall at the Manchester Museum of Science & Industry on February 3rd 2013. Built at Gorton for passenger workings over the Manchester-Sheffield Woodhead route, the loco was originally E27001 -'Ariadne'. All 7 locos were withdrawn in 1968, but were then bought for use in the Netherlands in 1969. They were used by Dutch Railways until 1986, when 2 locos including 1505 returned to the UK.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
