St Helens Junction.
The buildings on the Manchester bound platform at St Helens Junction are the original structure dating from 1833. Along with some of the other platform buildings at other stations on the old Liverpool to Manchester Railway, they are some of the oldest railway stations in the World that are still in daily use. Such buildings were lucky to survive the 1960s rationalisation that saw historic structures destroyed in the name of 'progress' with many stations reduced to bus shelter mediocrity.
