Chorley Level Crossing.
Much has changed since this image was recorded at Chorley Station on June 8th 1979. The level crossing that connected Chapel Street to Steeley Lane was still in use at this time. The signalbox dated from 1879 and was a Gloucester Wagon Company design, that was originally Chorley No.3. During the Preston area resignalling in 1972 it was reduced to a level crossing frame and was the only surviving box in the area. The crossing closed in 2003 and the box structure was moved to the Ribble Steam Railway in 2007.
