485043 at Ryde Esplanade.
The midday sun warms the wooden boards forming the platform at Ryde Esplanade on the 17th July 1989. 485043 leads a service from Shanklin, about to depart up to the Pier Head. The leading car is number 6, built in Birmingham by MCW in 1931. Its former LT number had been 3084. 1989 was the last summer when the vintage units held sway on Island Line. The first of the refurbished 1938 stock, 483001 had been delivered from Eastleigh Works earlier in July.
