Accident damaged Class 47, 47111 at Lostock Hall Depot.
Fortunately no-one was killed or seriously injured when a return football excursion from Carlisle to Accrington formed of a Class 104 DMU, collided with 47111 just south of Preston Station on the 18th January 1986. The class 47 was stood light engine when the collision occured. On the early morning of the 20th January 1986, 47111 was at the former loco depot at Lostock Hall, awaiting assessment and removal. Originally numbered D1699, the loco never worked again, it was scrapped at Cardiff Canton Depot.
