Class 313, 313006 at Horwich Works.7 viewsA long way from its North London Home, one of Hornsey Depots Class 313 emu sets, 313006 stands in the yard at Horwich Works on the 16th August 1980. Built in 1976 at BREL York for the Great Northern Suburban Electrification scheme, the units were dual voltage. The 313s were the first second generation emus built, they were direct descendants of the prototype PEP units that were trialled on the Southern Region in the early 1970s.

West Yorkshire PTE Class 101 at Hest Bank.0 viewsA view from the footbridge at Hest Bank looking North on October 17th 1977. A refurbished Metro-Cammell Class 101 complete with West Yorkshire PTE symbols crosses to the Down Line whilst working a Leeds to Morecambe service. The unit would traverse the now rarely used link from Hest Bank on the WCML to Bare Lane on the outskirts of Morecambe.

Class 110 Calder Valley DMU E52081 at Manchester Victoria.1 viewsA once familiar sight of a well-worn first generation DMU stood at an equally well-worn Manchester Victoria, on September 28th 1979. A BRCW Class 110 3-car DMU with DMCL E52081, complete with its first class saloon, was bringing up the rear of a tea-time service to Leeds via Halifax and Bradford. The former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Calder Valley main line was the stamping ground for these units fitted with 180hp Rolls Royce engines for coping with the gradients on the cross Pennine route.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
