Class 60, 60040 at Preston Docks.8 viewsHaving left the loaded tank wagons in the exchange sidings, 60040 prepares to run round to take the empties, as 6E32 back to Lindsey Oil Refinery in October 2010.

47035 at Vigo on the Lickey Incline.2 views47035 toils up the Lickey Incline with a relief SW/NE service formed of MkI stock on a hot Saturday September 5th 1981. 47035 and its train had assisted the previous train hauled by 47480 up the incline. As 47480 restarted, the two services separated and followed each other towards the summit. In todays health & safety obsessed world, can you imagine this happening now! In a sign of the more civilised times back then, the two youthful enthusiasts wanted to know which 47 was on the train in front.

Class 86 86259/E3137 -'Les Ross' on Fylde Road Viaduct, Preston.0 views86259/E3137 -'Les Ross' runs over Fylde Road Viaduct as it heads northbound with the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' from London Euston to Carlisle on February 1st 2014. Having left Euston at 07.08, and departed from Preston on-time at 10.29, the 86 would come off the train at Carnforth to be replaced with steam for the remainder of the run over the northern fells.

47226 at Midge Hall - Preston to Ormskirk Line.1 viewsMuch activity at Midge Hall at 8am on Sunday 5th May 1991. The engineers train, 8L64 had run from Preston Dock Street and was recovering scrap track materials from the former up line that was retained from Farington Curve Jct to Midge Hall until 1983. Even the dog from the Midge Hall pub has come along to help. The train consist was a pair of Chub wagons - DB787241 & DB787260, a Sealion Hopper - DB982828 & Sturgeon flat wagon DB994121. There was also some patch ballasting being done hence the Sealion.

EPS 37601 - Folkestone Harbour.0 viewsAs the tide begins to come in, 37601 sits on the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour with the Pathfinder Tours 'Atomic Harbourmaster' railtour on October 20th 2007. Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

37013 at Farington Curve Junction.0 views37013 trundles along the Up Slow as it approaches Farington Curve Junction whilst working the Saturday only Blackpool North to Sheffield formed of Mark 1 stock on August 13th 1983. This was a time-honoured Summer service that ran out and back on a Saturday running via East Lancashire and Copy Pit.

08954 at Plymouth.2 viewsWith the roof tops of Plymouth as a backdrop, 08954 was shunting parcel and mail vans at Plymouth station on July 26th 1980. This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history. The 08 was new from Darington Works in October 1962 numbered D4184, its first home was at Ebbw Junction (86A) and it was tranferred to Laira (84A) in May 1971.Nov 07, 2015
