Class 104 M53482 at Midge Hall.4 viewsWeary commuters are carried home on the 17.19 Preston to Ormskirk service, formed of a 2-Car Class 104 DMU, with Motor Brake Second M53482 leading on the 25th June 1985. The train has just passed Midge Hall and the driver will have collected the single line token for the section to Rufford. During this period the former main line saw three different DMU sets working evening peak-time services along the line, in the days when the passing loop was fully utilised at Rufford.

508123 at Brunswick.1 viewsTravelling on former CLC tracks, 508123 arrives at Brunswick with a service from Southport to Hunts Cross on April 29th 2006. Brunswick station opened for business in 1998. The area here was once a scene of great railway activity with services to and from the old Liverpool Central terminus, a Loco shed, goods sidings and warehouses serving the nearby docks. The Liverpool Overhead Railway ran across the site on its way to the terminus of the line at nearby Dingle.

485042 at Ryde Esplanade.0 viewsA Shanklin to Ryde Pier Head service arrives at a busy Ryde Esplanade on July 19th 1989. There has been some shunting of the vintage stock, the leading driving car is number 4, tagged solo onto the front of set 485043. 1989 was the last year when the vintage sets held sway on Island Line. Originally built by MCW in 1934, Car 4 was withdrawn from service on September 25th 1989 and crossed the Solent three days later on a one-way trip to Vic Berrys scrapyard at Leicester. The car was scrapped in October 1990.

Out of sight at the other end of the train was fellow EPS class 37, 37603. This was one of the last diesel hauled trains to traverse this line. The itinerary on that day included a trip along the Dungeness Branch. It was a long day - an 06.15 start from Crewe on Saturday morning and only getting back to Crewe at 01.24 on Sunday morning!Dec 10, 2015

This was a time-honoured scene at all major stations - now sadly consigned to history.
